Use TikTok Keyword & Brand Mention Monitor with Python

Searches TikTok for posts matching any keyword, brand name, or handle, flagging caption text matches and listing formally tagged mentions, engagement, and author details.

1. Choose the data you need

Review the published README for supported collection modes, examples, and limits. The recipe below uses the current published input definition.

2. Prepare a source-based input

This JSON contains published prefills and required-field defaults. Review every value for your task before running it; it is not a promise of successful collection.

FieldTypeRequiredDescription
keywordsarrayrequiredTerms to monitor. One per line. Accepts plain keywords and phrases ('nike', 'nike shoes'), hashtags ('#JustDoIt') and handles ('@gymshark'). Multi-word caption matches require a contiguous phrase; direct @handles require a clickable tag.
matchModestringoptional'Real mentions' keeps posts with a contiguous caption phrase, a matching hashtag slug, a clickable @mention or an explicit sound match. For direct @handle inputs only the clickable tag (or sound) counts. 'Every search result' also keeps weak search hits, labelled searchResult.
datePostedstringoptionalOnly keep posts published in this window. The actor asks TikTok for the matching publish window, merges a bounded unfiltered pass for recall, and applies the exact cutoff.
postedAfterstringoptionalOptional exact cut-off, e.g. 2026-10-01 or '3 days'. The tighter of this and 'Posted within' applies.
sortBystringoptionalOrder of the final rows. 'Newest first' is the monitor-friendly order; TikTok's own newest ordering is used where available, with a client-side fallback.
searchDepthstringoptional'Just this term' runs one search. 'Standard' adds the #hashtag and @handle for single-word terms. 'Deep' also reads photo/slideshow posts, related searches and case/spacing variants. A direct @handle stays tagged-only in mentionsOnly.
maxResultsPerKeywordintegeroptionalMaximum rows kept for each keyword after all sources are merged (1-500). TikTok returns roughly 130-240 posts per source query; deep mode can find more across sources.
maxItemsintegeroptionalOptional global cap across all keywords and sources.
minPlayCountintegeroptionalDrop posts with fewer plays/views. Leave empty for no minimum.
searchCountrystringoptional'Any country' uses the fastest free connection. A specific country pins the search to that market's results, which is slower but shows what people there see.
onlyNewMentionsbooleanoptionalEmit only posts not seen by this monitor in previous runs. The first run backfills; 'new' means new to this monitor, not new on TikTok.
monitorNamestringoptionalName for this watchlist's saved state. Use a different name for a separate set of keywords.
soundUrlsarrayoptionalOptional TikTok sound URLs or IDs to read as explicit sources, e.g. https://www.tiktok.com/music/original-sound-123... . Sound evidence sets soundMatch; a sound-only row uses source=sound and keyword=sound:<musicId>.

3. Start an Actor run

Set APIFY_TOKEN in your environment. Python 3.10 or newer is sufficient; this recipe uses no third-party packages.

Execution may incur charges. Review current pricing on Apify. The request asks for a 120-second timeout and a charge limit; these settings are subject to Apify’s pricing and do not guarantee an all-inclusive spending cap.

import json
import os
import urllib.request

# Save the schema-derived example as input.json; review and edit it first.
with open("input.json", encoding="utf-8") as stream:
    actor_input = json.load(stream)

token = os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"]
request = urllib.request.Request(
    "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/k05bfa7NlOQLER8tY/runs?timeout=120&maxTotalChargeUsd=0.50",
    data=json.dumps(actor_input).encode("utf-8"),
    headers={"Authorization": "Bearer " + token, "Content-Type": "application/json"},
    method="POST",
)
# This starts a potentially billable run. Do not automatically retry this POST.
with urllib.request.urlopen(request, timeout=40) as response:
    run = json.load(response)["data"]
print("Run ID:", run["id"])
print("Status:", run["status"])
# Inspect and download results in Apify Console once the run succeeds.

4. Inspect the actual results

Open the run in Apify Console and wait for a successful completion. Use the published output schema to locate results and the dataset schema to understand declared views. Missing or optional record fields must not be treated as guaranteed values.

One row per public TikTok post matched to a keyword, hashtag, handle, photo search, related search or explicit sound, with match evidence, provenance and engagement.

Questions before you run

Which inputs are required?

The published required fields are keywords

What does this guide verify?

The fields, prefills, and schema links are rendered from the published build. This is a usage recipe, not a paid live extraction test. Source availability and collection results can vary.

What if the run request times out?

Check Apify Console before retrying. The first request may already have created a run. Do not automatically repeat a run-creation POST.
